It is different from the claim by Ito (1990) and Nomura & Shirai (1997) that Japanese children go through an intransitive stage before they start to use correct transitive verbs.　Ito’s prediction that the causative suffix －sase and －se/-si attached to intransitive verbs would occur after the stage of intransitive overextension did not observed in the data.
